VORTEX INSTALLATION

In order to help you to understand how our Vortex Rammer is installed, we included within this page,  all the steps needed for completion of installation.

Should you still have a problem regarding your Vortex installation, please feel free to contact us via our Online Tech Support, by sending an email to Ernie or directly by calling us at Breathless Performance at (954) 925-7725.

About two years ago the Vortex Ram Air Induction System was created for the new generation 1997-2002 C5 Corvette. This system has proven to have the highest horsepower and fastest times at the track. Corvette Fever acknowledged this by publishing a three-page article on it in their January 2000 issue. This system is now also available for 1990-1996 C4 corvettes (bottom page).

THE VORTEX RAMMER COLD AIR SYSTEM 97-03 VETTE

BREATHLESS PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS- This vortex rammer kit (Item# 100-218) replaces the restrictive stock air box assembly. Look closely at the filter and note that this is not the K&N filter that everyone sells. This revolutionary air cleaner contains an internal vortex velocity stack. It obtains cool, pressurized air from the radiator cavity through your modified shroud. Our specially designed scoop then forces it into our rammer sealed box, where in turn, it directly injects cold air into your intake. (Lowering Manifold Air Temperature by almost 20
Degrees)

Remember, cold air means more power. Our Dyno results have already shown 22HP and 21FT/LBS of torque. Remember, this is without the benefit of the pressurized air that is created at high speeds (which means there will be more h.p. at speeds over 35 MPH. 1/4 mile tests showed 5 MPH and .35 (with the scoop attached).

The kits are available in CLEAR, BLACK or CARBON FIBER with Black, Purple, Red or Yellow Filter tips. Clear finish provides a visual access to your Filter and Radiator for service inspection. If you want to order this item, click here.

STEP 1

1. Disconnect your MAT sensor located just in from of your throttle body

STEP 2

2. Remove the small 1/4 plastic tube that is inserted into the air intake tube.(97-98 ONLY)
Disconnect your mass air flow sensor.  Take a screwdriver and loosen the clamp that supports the air intake tube to the throttle body.

STEP 3

3. Disconnect the 3/4 air pump hose from your stock air box.  The only supports now are rubber holders in which as you lift the complete assembly will separate. Take the complete assembly, air box, mass air and intake tube and place it on the table. You now need to separate the air box from the mass air flow sensor. On the front of the mass air flow sensor you should find a clamp, position a screwdriver in the clamp and pry it open. Separate the mass air flow sensor from the air box.

STEP 4

4. You have your choice to modify your shroud on the car or to remove the shroud then modify it. ( On the car is the easier way and if you ever want to return it to stock GM carries replacement shrouds for between $49.00 and $59.00)If you wish to remove the shroud you have to remove  7 screws on the bottom that support the shroud and 2 on each side of the radiator support plastic beam. The shroud can then be removed from the top. Take the template provided and position it in the center of the shroud.

STEP 5

5.  The bottom part fits in the shrouds ridge.

STEP 6

Mark the center section to cut with a pencil.

STEP 7

Take a dremel or utility knife and cut the opening for the rammer. At this point place the Vortex Rammer in the shroud and mark the supporting  holes for the rammer. Remove the rammer and use a 3/8 drill bit to drill into the marked holes. Take the U-Clips provided and position them into the holes nipple side down.

STEP 8

8. Take the 1/2 foam provided and position it over the section of the shroud (Top of the shroud, closest to the engine) where the crevice is. You should now have an equal height around the square opening.

STEP 9

9. Take your Vortex Rammer and mount it onto your Mass air flow sensor.

STEP 10

10. Mount the intake air tube with the rammer and all  back on to your throttle body. Position the scoop onto the shroud and then place the rammer box on top of it.

STEP11

11. Take your screws provided and screw them into the U-Clips you had installed. Tighten all the clamps

STEP12

12. Reconnect your MAT sensor, Mass Air Flow sensor and your 1/4 air tube. ( 1/4 air tube on 97-98 only )
** You have no problem in driving through rain but care must be taken to not drive at speed through deep water. Call us for further info. Take the small air pump filter provided with the kit and insert it into the 3/4 air pump hose down by the air box. Mark a spot on the shroud to mount the tab that holds the air pump hose. Drill a 1/4 hole and push the special tab provided through the hole from underneath, at this point pass the tie strap through the tab and around the 3/4 air pump hose.
(This filter does not get inserted into the air box, but gets strapped next to it to intake warm air )  (Once installed you can trim the filter neck to finish aliening the whole unit) Custom cut shrouds are also available
